The Spanish Contact Point of the European Migration Network is organizing a conference on December 1, 2022, titled “The Importance of Narratives in Migration Discourse: Analysis, Impact, and Good Practices.” The conference will be held in a hybrid format (both online and in person in Madrid).

Alongside other areas, narrative and its creation play a significant role in shaping migration policy. Narrative and the discourse surrounding migration-related phenomena influence public opinion, behavior, and attitudes. Migration-related attitudes and beliefs are often temporary and change rapidly over time depending on the use of narrative – this can foster better understanding or, conversely, incite discrimination and xenophobia.

The conference is divided into two panel discussions, featuring academics, journalists, officials, and representatives from across the political spectrum and non-governmental organizations:

I Migration Narratives and Their Impact on Society

II Integration Experiences and Good Practices, and the Fight Against Hatred

To register for the conference, please send an email to rem@inclusion.gob.es (please also specify whether you will participate online or in person).
