Estonia has also not remained unchanged; instead of being a transit country, we have become a destination country for third-country nationals, predominantly Ukrainians. In 2018,<br \/>\n527,000 Ukrainian citizens received a residence permit to settle in the European Union, accounting for almost 1\/5 of all first-time temporary residence permits. The same trend was observed in 2017, when 662,000 Ukrainian citizens received a first-time residence permit.
