{"id":10544,"date":"2021-04-01T11:05:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-01T08:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.emn.ee\/event\/world-bank-and-emn-roundtable-public-perceptions-of-migration\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T14:45:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T11:45:37","slug":"world-bank-and-emn-roundtable-public-perceptions-of-migration","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.emn.ee\/en\/event\/world-bank-and-emn-roundtable-public-perceptions-of-migration\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank and EMN Roundtable &#8220;Public Perceptions of Migration&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A roundtable will be held as part of the Footprints series, jointly organised by EMN and the World Bank, on <strong>April 13th from 5:00 PM<\/strong><strong>-6:30 PM <\/strong>(Estonian time), this time focusing on<strong> public perceptions of migration. <\/strong>The roundtable will discuss the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the biggest misconceptions about migration and why is it important to know them?<\/li>\n<li>Can and how can public attitudes and opinions be changed?<\/li>\n<li>What can be learned from communication experts about how to better engage with the public, and what role do the media or public sector institutions play in this?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speakers at the roundtable:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sunder Katwala <\/strong>(Director of British Future) with a presentation<strong>\u201cWhat can we learn from talking about immigration?\u201d<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>James Dennison<\/strong>, (Professor at the Migration Policy Centre, European University Institute) with a presentation <strong>\u201cCan attitudes and opinions be changed, and if so, how?\u201d<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Irene Bloemraad,<\/strong> (Professor at the University of Berkeley) with a presentation <strong>\u201cViews on Immigration: Tackling Hearts more than Minds\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also speaking will be <strong>Sophia Burton<\/strong> from the Migration Matters initiative, <strong>Jean-Christophe Dumont<\/strong> from the OECD NETCOM initiative, and a representative of the Barcelona Anti-Rumour strategy (tbc).<\/p>\n<p>The roundtable will be moderated by <strong>Manjula Luthria <\/strong>(Senior Economist, World Bank).
